We can’t have Rosh Hashanah rush up on us with no preparation… so we have a number of pre-Rosh Hashanah events to get into the spirit.

TUES 9/16: TORAH-TUES “ANSWERING HISTORY’S CALL”

This week’s Torah-Tues class ushers in the High Holiday spirit by examining one of the commonly repeated Selichot that is a walk down memory line, skimming through biblical generations from Abraham to Ezra. Take a closer look! 5:45pm and 7:45pm, along with Kosher pizza, fries, salad and dessert.

WED 9/17: SHOFAR FACTORY AT THE SMALL FOUNTAIN

It’s almost an annual tradition by now. Nearly every year Lchaim tables outside the Campus Center at the Small Fountain with a hands-on actual Shofar Factory. Choose the ram’s horn that works for you, finish it, polish it, take it home when it dries. No charge, but limited supplies. 11am-2pm. Mega thanks to Rabbi Abba of Saratoga Chabad for sawing and drilling away and for his years of Shofar experience and expertise.

SAT 9/20: MIDNIGHT SELICHOT JAM

A few years running now.. thanks to Ben Z who initiated this wonderful tradition. We begin a music Jam with food and nosh and informal music by student musicians to begin at about 11:45pm and segway into the traditional midnight Selichot prayer ushering in the High Holiday season at 1am. Its a short but moving prayer, engaging and unique. Come for the music, atmosphere and experience.

SUN 9/21: HILLEL BRINGS THE MACCABEATS

The Maccabeats accapella group was founded at Yeshive University in 2007 . Their songs and music videos have gone viral online, they’ve sung at the White House and are very popular within (and beyond) the Jewish community. Hillel had the good fortune to get them to UAlbany for a concert in the PAC on the Sunday before Rosh Hashanah. It’s free for students but they need to reserve tickets, advance tickets for community are only $5 each. To reserve tickets (both free student tickets and community tickets) use this link on the Hillel page.

AND THEN ROSH HASHANAH 5775 / 2014. If you will be in Albany click here for full schedule of prayers and meals held at Shabbos House.
