Shabbat is a very special time in the UAlbany Jewish campus community. Friday Nights are the one time of the week that large numbers of Jewish students come together and celebrate as a community. In addition, Shabbos Lunch is no longer a best-kept secret, and participation has been growing in recent years. Come join us!

Thanks to the unique cooperative relationship between Shabbos House (Chabad) and UAlbany Hillel, we alternate Friday Nights. On Hillel weekends Friday nights are (usually) in the Campus Center (catered by Kosher Dining at Dutch Quad) and Shabbos House weekends are at Shabbos House – 320 Fuller Road, two houses down from Great Dane Drive in the direction of Stuyvesant Plaza.

See EVENTS CALENDAR for whose week this is, and where Friday Night Dinner will be.

There are two set times for Friday Night Prayers and Dinner, depending on the time of year. Early Fall and Late Spring we pray at 7pm and begin dinner at 8pm. Once the clocks change in late Fall we pray at 6pm and eat at 7pm. Obviously, actual start times for Shabbat will vary – see Events Calendar or Chabad.org for exact Shabbat start times or get our little annual Candle-Lighting card – but this is when we pray and have dinner to avoid confusion. If you wish to light candles at Shabbos House, please come slightly before  candle-lighting time for that week.

Shabbat Lunch is always at Shabbos House, and the same is for Jewish Holiday meals (Rosh Hashanah, Sukkot, Pesach etc).

There is no charge for meals. The goal is to provide barrier-free, friendly and welcoming access for student participation. Obviously, donations by parents, alumni and friends are most appreciated, since without it, all this would simply not be possible.
