The first Seder falls on Friday Night this 2015, so both Seders are over the weekend. Many students will be going home, as it is a wonderful thing to celebrate the Passover Seders with family. For those up here at UAlbany, we will be hosting traditional, student-friendly Seders that are engaging, meaningful and enjoyable, too. We have meals and celebration also on last two days of the Passover holiday. See below.

RSVP HELPS! It is not required but it helps us be better prepared on a holiday like Passover. Please indicate which meals you hope to attend.

SEDER NIGHT SCHEDULE

Friday April 3rd: Prayers 7:30pm, Seder 8pm (projected end of Seder 11:15pm)
Sat April 4th: Prayers 8pm, Seder 8:30pm (projected end of Seder 11:45pm)

SEDER-WITHIN-A-SEDER

Our traditional student-friendly Seders take a little over three hours. You are welcome to come/go at any time. For those who’d like the Seder essentials in a shorter time frame, come for our “Seder-within-a-Seder” for one hour, 9:30-10:30pm so you get some of the four cups, your taste of Matzah and Maror, a little of the Haggadah and enjoy the holiday meal.

HOLIDAY LUNCHES

Passover begins and ends with two days of holiday, the intermediate four days are weekdays but still Passover. Shabbos House has meals and prayers on the first two and last two days of holiday, including the lunches at 12:45pm on Sat 4/4 and Sunday 4/5, and at the end of Passover: Friday 4/10 and Sat 4/11. Holiday Prayers on each of those mornings at 10am.

INTERMEDIATE DAYS

Kosher Dining at Dutch will be transitioning to Passover meals. Shabbos House will not be doing Passover meals from Monday 4/6 to Thursday 4/9 of Passover. Even if you are not on the meal plan you can purchase a meal at the cashier/swipe desk on the way day to the Dining Halls for about $11.

In the spirit of the “Chol HaMoed” intermediate days we may plan a short getaway outing for those students able to get away for a

THE LAST TWO DAYS OF THE HOLIDAY

Shabbos House is back on with prayer services and holiday meals for the last two days of Passover, starting Thursday night 4/9 through Saturday 4/11. Dinners are at 8pm, and Lunches at 12:45pm.

PRAYERS for the last two days are at 7:30pm on Thursday 4/9, 9:30am on Friday 4/10 and later that evening at 7pm, and 10am on Saturday 4/11. Lunches and dinners follow.

WHO PAYS FOR ALL THIS?

Ah, good question! The majority of Shabbos House’s support comes from parents and alumni, and community friends, and Passover is no different. There is no national fund for this, all these meals are only possible thanks to individual contributions, large and small. The L’chaim Student Group funded by the UAlbany Student Association also co-sponsors some of the holiday meals and experiences.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE A TEST ON PASSOVER?

This year things are easier, because the holiday portions of Passover this year fall on the weekend (aside for the 7th day of Passover, Friday 4/10). It is always best to let your professor know well before the holiday, and we can provide an informative note about the holiday as well. But the earlier the better, so they can make alternate arrangements and not be presented with this issue at the last minute.
