Things are winding down, especially coming off a high like the Purim Carnival, but there are still a few events left before people head home or away for UAlbany’s Spring Break 2015:

3/8: SUNDAY MINYAN BAGEL BRUNCH
11am – on the new time (we lose an hour). We’ll try to keep moving on the Gemorah as well as give out topics for research, reflection and/or review, as we prepare for the year-end Siyum completion celebration of Talmud Brachos “Tefilat HaShachar” chapter 4. In the spirit of pre-Pesach cleaning we’ll serve French Toast!

3/9-10: VOTE FOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Login with your ID on MyInvolvement to vote for the leadership of the coming year’s Student Government, as well as the Student Senate. Politics is local, and student government plays a significant role in student life at UAlbany, from the 200+ student groups (including L’chaim and Hillel etc) to campus-wide events and more. The Student Activity Free funds Lchaim programs and holidays at Shabbos House, as well as a huge spectrum of campus groups. Voting is quick and online, do it when you have a minute or two. Shabbos House does not endorse specific candidates but we are appreciative to those who invest of themselves to make a difference and are helpful to our campus community.

3/10: TORAH-TUESDAY ON “THE STRUGGLE IS SIGNIFICANT”
We consider this class significant because there are alumni who continue to quote it, almost a decade later. It’s a life-relevant look at Tanya chapters 15, 27 and 30 about the struggles and challenges of life, what is considered meaningful achievement, both in terms of self, relationships and the world around us. We’ll do this class at 5:45pm and 7:45pm. The 8:45pm slot has not be necessary this semester, but we’re open to doing it if students come. And as usual, there will be dinner to go along with it – with soup and salad, a pasta and dessert.

3/11: HILLEL AND MMA SHOWCASE KRAV MAGA
Get a feel for Israeli martial arts, 7-8pm on Wednesday in the Empire Commons Community Building. This event is being arranged by Iris B. on the Hillel Board, in conjunction with the MMA Club and others.

3/13-14: COZY SHABBAT OF SPRING BREAK
Are you here for Shabbat? UAlbany is hosting the America East Basketball championship games, in which both our Mens and Women basketball teams #PurpleOutSEFCU! are competing. We’re hosting Shabbat dinner here (now 8pm, instead of 7), as well as Sat Lunch (12:45pm as usual). There’s a chance we may even have a Minyan, if enough people are still around. It’s a special reading: double-portion of Vayakhel and Pekudei, Chazak (end of Book of Exodus) and the special HaParah reading as we near the Hebrew month of Nissan and Passover.
