A. The Code of Jewish Law says that we should enjoy the finest foods with which take pleasure in on Shabbos. Meat and wine were (and still are) considered rich foods of pleasure and enjoyment. Back in the day, many people only ate meat or chicken on a Shabbat or holiday. But if someone doesn’t enjoy eating meat they are under no obligation to do so, and should eat foods that they do enjoy – all in honor of the Shabbos.
