As 2017 marks fifty years from the Six Day War, this special program for students and community is scheduled for Monday evening September 18th, 7:30pm (two days before Rosh Hashanah).

Ephy Carmel and Eitan Evan both served together in the IDF in 1967 and will share their memories and experiences of the days of the war, as well as the time period leading up to it and that which followed. Rabbi Israel Rubin will share his memories and perspective from New York, with memories of the Rebbe’s words of reassurance and encouragement during the tense days leading up to the war, and the Rebbe’s launch of the Tefillin campaign as a result.

The event will be on Monday evening, September 18th, 7:30pm at the Shabbos House Rohr Chabad Jewish Student Center, located at 320 Fuller Road in Albany. Parking is available at the nearby Dutch Quad Student Lot, in the first few rows closest to Shabbos House. Refreshments will be served.

Some have asked, why are we doing this event two nights before Rosh Hashanah?

Here are a few answers:

1) We wanted to do this event while it was still 2017, marking 50 years from 1967. Logistics and scheduling for our presenters made this date ideal.

2) The High Holidays are all about prayer, and one of the best-known and beloved Jewish places of prayer is the Kotel, which was out of reach and inaccessible for the Jewish people until the Six Day War in 1967.

3) This Shabbos we discussed with the UAlbany students the saying from the Zohar (oft-quoted in Chassidus) that “the time of prayer is a time of war”. Hence, prayer and war are linked.
