“Shiva” is the 7-day mourning period following the funeral of an immediate relative. It’s an intense experience, emotionally enriching and draining, uplifting and exhausting, supportive and taxing. It’s all that.
After sitting Shiva with my family upon the passing of my father, Rabbi Yisroel Rubin, of blessed memory, there’s a lot of remember and share. This is not my first Shiva. I sat Shiva some 16 years ago upon the passing of my sister Esty. She passed away in Manchester England, some of us sat Shiva in England, I was with most of my brothers back in my parents home in Albany.
I thought I’d jot down some personal impressions and reflections looking back at the Shiva experience. Meanwhile it’s been a month already. Still n ot there yet. But I will come back to this, only it will be from the lens of a further distance.
Will come back to write this page soon…
