Some early AI pioneers are now speaking out, raising concerns of increasingly worrisome Rogue AI that learns to hide its own flaws, cover its tracks and plant hidden code to ignore human-developer inputs.
Some of this happened to be publicized in the week between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur 2026, in the days leading up to Shabbos Shuvah of 5787/2026. There is a connection!
Hiding flaws and covering our tracks are Teshuvah concerns, too. The Talmud and Maimonides writes that acknowledging the sin, recognizing our shortcomings is the first step. Being honest and transparent with ourselves (and others) is crucial for any change or improvement to occur.
And that insidious hidden code to ignore the developer? We humans do this all the time with G-d! Consciously or even subconsciously, we often see ourselves as independent, many forgetting our Creator!

It so happens that Shabbos Shuva this 2026 is also Family Weekend at UAlbany. It can also be this way with family. Parents put in so much to help us get to where we are today. We didn’t come from nowhere. We can’t forget that.
