Great Danes for Israel at UAlbany will be screening “Mekonen – the Journey of an African Jew” Tuesday February 21st, 8pm (film will start approx 8:20pm) at Shabbos House.

This film is a story of emotional personal journey and challenge, going from shepherding in Ethiopia to serving as a commander in the IDF. It is a story of loss and of friendship, of both change and tradition. It’s about making peace with the past and embracing the future. Mekonen was one of the IDF soldiers featured in “Beneath the Helmet” and “Mekonen” is the story of his own journey.

There will be an Israel-themed dinner served with pita, felafel and salads, soup and dessert.

In addition to the film on Tuesday 2/21, we’ve asked Herut Admasu, Israel Fellow for UAlbany Hillel, to share her family’s story, and her journey and experience at Shabbat Lunch of 2/18 to give her own thoughts, context and background to the film we’re showing on the following Tuesday.

These events are co-sponsored by the “Invest In Israel” initiative at Shabbos House.
