MatzahBall Table 2014

Each year at our annual Matzah Ball table in the cold of winter at UAlbany we try to think of a new life-message to be learned from the Matzah-Ball. One year it was about being in a conducive and supportive environment (i.e. soup), another year we explored the difference between floaters and sinkers. This year’s message, coming on the morning after the State of the Union #SOTU address, is about the states of matter as applied to MatzahBalls.

So, how to classify the Matzah-Ball? It certainly isn’t a liquid, though it thrives in liquid, but is it truly a solid? Most students we asked thought a Matzahball would fall somewhere in between the two states of solid and liquid, though closer to solid. Scientifically, this transitional classification is known as the Mesophase.

MatzahBalls R Us! We are the mesophase! We hover between physical and spiritual, past and future, holy and mundane, surface & depth etc… We thrive on the balance, blending both worlds, seeking equilibrium!
